Mylene Paat and Chery Tiggo made F2 Logistics look like they were out of the league on Thursday, impressing even their Crossovers mentor.
“We know that F2 is not an easy team. They also have a two-game winning streak. That’s why this is incredible,” said Chery Tigggo coach Aaron Velez after his team’s impressive 25-19, 25-14 win. 25-16 victory in the 2023 Premier Volleyball League All-Filipino Conference at the Philsports Arena.
Paat poured in a game-high 22 points from 20 attacks, one block, and an ace to lead another balanced attack from the Crossovers, who banked on the best efforts of the two players who were sent outside the production points.
Brilliant playmaking Setter Alina Bicar greased Chery Tiggo’s offense, serving up 20 excellent sets that helped Crossovers to defeat 54-22 at the point of attack. Libero Buding Duremdes, meanwhile, protected the floor with 25 digs and 13 excellent receptions to silence the Cargo Movers’ scoring efforts.
Great collaboration
“We just did what our coach told us,” Duremdes said.
“All our team members have a great collaboration,” Velez said in Filipino. “I’m so proud of the women, how hard they work. They play their hearts out and they sacrifice themselves for each other.
Shaya Adorador scored 13 points for the Crossovers. EJ Laure had 12 points and 15 digs, while Cza Carandang added 10 points.
The Crossovers pulled away in the second set by a 20-8 margin after scoring 12 of the final 14 points capped by Paat’s kills to easily take a two-set advantage.
“We’re very thankful that all our hard work is paying off,” said Paat after his third straight Crossovers win joining the inactive Creamline Cool Smashers for the early lead. “Confident, [our performance] look good and feel good.
The Cargo Movers scored the first two points of the third but the Crossovers were able to regain the momentum, 10-9, before falling behind, 21-13.
Myla Pablo needed 44 attempts to score just nine points for F2 Logistics, who had a 2-1 record. Majoy Baron, playing his first game in the conference, finished with six points, including four blocks.
