
Sen. John Fetterman (D-Pa.) checked himself into the hospital this week to treat depression, according to a statement released by his chief of staff on Friday.
“Last night, Senator John Fetterman checked himself into the Walter Reed National Military Medical Center to receive treatment for clinical depression. While John has had persistent depression throughout his life, it has only gotten worse in the past few weeks,” said Adam Jentleson, Fetterman’s top aide. , in that statement.
“On Monday, John was evaluated by Dr. Brian P. Monahan, the Supervising Physician of the United States Congress. Yesterday, Dr. Monahan recommended inpatient treatment at Walter Reed. John agreed, and he accepted the treatment voluntarily. After examining John, the doctors at Walter Reed told me that John was getting the treatment he needed, and that he would be back,” Jentleson added.
Fetterman was recently hospitalized after experiencing dizziness. He was released after tests ruled out a new stroke. Last year, Fetterman suffered a stroke caused by atrial fibrillation, an irregular heartbeat condition. Strokes cause auditory processing disorders, which are common among stroke survivors.
Gisele Fetterman, the senator’s wife, asked for privacy during “a difficult time for our family.”
