MANILA, Philippines – Mylene Paat may be Chery Tiggo’s official captain, but she says Alina Bicar is the captain of the game after leading the Crossovers undefeated in three matches in the 2023 Premier Volleyball League All-Filipino Conference.
Paat produced 22 points with Bicar providing a brilliant game to stun unbeaten F2 Logistics, 25-19, 25-14. 25-16, Saturday at the Philsports Arena.
“It’s like being the captain of a ship. I am the captain of the team but he is the captain of the game,” said Paat in Bicar, who made 20 good sets and a kill block.

“Alina is a short setter but when she enters the court, she stands tall. She can block. Before the game, she had one block,” he added.

The University of Santo Tomas product, who led the team 54-22 in attack against F2 Logistics, expressed his passion to deliver Crossovers every time he played.
“I always think every coach gives it to me if I want to perform [well]. I want to help the team when they need me. I’m always ready,” Bicar said in Filipino.
Bicar, who has embraced the role of the main playmaker, said that he and his teammate Jasmine Nabor have a good collaboration to play in Crossovers.
“We [me and Jasmine] always be careful. Anyone who has a good game, we support and help each other,” he said. “I wouldn’t be able to do it without my friends. We set up the play but our teammates scored. Jas and I are very grateful for his trust.”
Chery Tiggo coach Aaron Velez praised Bicar’s determination, letting his game speak despite being a soft setter.
“Alina is really showing her heart now. I can see the aggressiveness. He is not vocal and expressive. But they are very expensive [to our team]. Once Alina focuses, everything will work. You can see his love for the sport,” Velez said in Filipino.
Bicar said the Crossovers must avoid complacency and remain determined as they look to win for the fourth time against PLDT High Speed Hitters (1-1) at the same venue in Pasig City.
“We just stick with what we’re doing. We’re not satisfied. We thank God for the win. We help each other and enjoy the game. We just have to stay together and keep fighting spirit,” he said.
