As fans of Kiernan ‘AKA’ Forbes, family and country still struggle with the loss of the talented rapper, the record label has confirmed the release of his latest album, Mass State.
Just a day before he was shot and killed at close range in Durban last week, AKA was preparing for the release of his sixth studio album. Mass State.
Sony Music Entertainment Africa has confirmed the dates of the new music.
Mass State release will continue
Releasing a statement Thursday morning, the rapper’s team said they will continue to celebrate his legacy as his family and record label decide to release the album.
“They [Forbes family] who chose to proceed with the release of Mass State album on February 24th as planned.
“In the past two years, Mass State has become the entire AKA world. Supa Mega continues to maintain the album release momentum and high anticipation,” the statement said.
Co-executive producer and manager for the album Nivo said they were blessed to work with Kiernan, “We spent a lot of time mapping out this rollout and creating all the content we have in his direction”.
He said the rapper worked very hard on the album and put everything into it. Nivo said AKA had the opportunity to agree how Mass State will be launched and marketed.
They approve the elements, direction and vision of the release.
Support from the Forbes family
The team of AKA, VTH, The T Effect and Sony Music Entertainment Africa will continue to manage the release Mass State“with the support and blessings of my family”.
Sony Music’s Sean Watson said he was saddened by the news and sent his condolences to Forbes, Megacy, his colleagues and the nation.
Raquel Benza of VTH said that AKA made the album, “caused him to create a masterpiece”.
New Music
At Run Jozi’s the hitmaker team concluded they will follow the wishes of the artist who has the next single Company was released on Friday featuring friends and collaborators Kiddominant.
“The single was recorded in Los Angeles during the January holidays.”
AKA’s commemoration will take place at the Sandton Convention Center on Friday at 3pm.
A limited number of free tickets for fans are selling fast, with organizers asking the public not to attend if they don’t have tickets.
AKA’s friend and former manager, Tibz, was also shot. After being shot, he retreated to the restaurant where he later died.
