The Kwara APC Campaign Train arrived in Edu Local Government on Tuesday evening, with Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq officially launching the first phase of the Gbugbu International Market amid applause from residents of the commercial area.
The Emir of Lafiagi, Alhaji Muhammed Kudu Kawu, termed the development as heartening as he reiterated that Governor AbdulRazaq deserves another four years for his achievements and the empathy he has shown for the people, especially the rural poor.
“The Gbugbu market is the biggest commercial opportunity in the entire Edu Patigi Local Government today. So, if you spend money to create international standards, you have given a great opportunity to sell products to the international community,” said Emir.
“Except for us who live here, no one will appreciate what we have done here but us.
“You can say that every Wednesday, if you go to all the communities in Edu and Patigi, they are empty, because they all go to the market, and bring their produce to sell and buy the things they need. all week. This is the main source of livelihood for our community, and without this market, life may be difficult for the community, especially those in the villages.
He thanked the government for considering it appropriate to modernize the commercial center.
“Thank you very much for considering it appropriate to build this market and expand the opportunities for the people. You have certainly added value and opportunities to improve livelihoods,” he said.
Joining the Governor for the commission were Senator Sadiq Umar; Members of Parliament; cabinet members, and other government officials and members of the ruling party.
AbdulRazaq, for his part, said the project was a deliberate effort by his administration to impact the economy of the people, promising to initiate other infrastructure projects to improve living standards.
“The trade that will be carried out here will have a significant impact on the environment here. This project is intentional because the people of Gbugbu also have the right to receive the dividends of democracy. This confirms part of our policy to invest in every sector of our community. Lafiagi is famous for farming and trade. Everything legal under the sun will be sold here,” the Governor said.
“Gbugbu is very strategic because once the new bridge awarded by President Muhammadu Buhari is built, driving from here to Abuja will be an easy task. We will not stop at just building the Gbugbu International Market. We will also expand other development projects such as education and health.
