Rep. Sara Jacobs (D-Calif.) argued on the House floor Wednesday that breast enhancement is gender-affirming care, prompting Rep. Nancy Mace (R-SC) to call her “ridiculous,” “disgusting,” and later insult her appearance.
“PS – I have a good surgeon if you ever want to get your nose done,” Mace snarked at Jacobs, who is Jewish.
The dustup erupted when Jacobs advocated for trans people amid Mace’s efforts to further restrict trans rights in a defense authorization bill.
“I would just like to point out that I think it’s very interesting that my colleague from South Carolina is so obsessed with the issue of trans people, using horrible slurs to talk about them, when many people in this body have received gender-affirming care,” Jacobs said.
“Filler is gender-affirming care. Boob jobs is gender-affirming care. Botox is gender-affirming care,” Jacobs continued. “Lots of my colleagues have received gender-affirming care, and let me be clear, I think everybody should have access to the gender-affirming care they need, and I think that we should respect everybody in this country.”
Mace can be heard in the background claiming that Jacobs was talking about “my body.”
“Ridiculous,” Mace said to Jacobs in the C-SPAN clip. “You are absolutely ridiculous.”
The GOP lawmaker continued over the gavel, per The Hill, “What the hell is your problem? You are disgusting. You are an insult.”
Mace, who earlier this year accused four men, including her ex-fiance, of drugging and raping her, took her grievance with Jacobs online.
“To @RepSaraJacobs, I talk about women’s safety and your response is commentary about my body on the House floor,” Mace wrote on X. “If you knew anything about survivors you would know some women change their bodies because of the trauma of sexual violence. They live with the consequences for a lifetime.”
Mace then made the nose-job wisecrack.
“I feel sad for you,” Jacobs wrote on X in response to another Mace post. “Stop lashing out against trans kids and pretending it’s to ‘protect women’. Hope you get the help you need.”
The squabble ended before conservative activist Charlie Kirk was assassinated. In reacting to the shooting death, Mace baselessly said “Democrats own this this” ― another mouthing-off that went viral.
Mace also revisited her fight with Jacobs.
“I got in a screaming match with one of my colleagues today on the floor because she decided to attack the way my body looks because I don’t want men in women’s bathrooms,” she told reporters. “So when are my colleagues on the left side of the aisle, the Democrats, gonna own the violence is happening this country against Republicans and against conservatives. It’s unforgivable.”
