Nissan and Renault said there they will invest $ 600 million to create six new models in India.
The Japanese and French automakers will work on the project from their base in Chennai, serving as an export hub, they said in a statement.
Six models, with each automaker making three, will be built on a joint platform and will also be exported, he said. The new models will include two electric vehicles, the first EVs launched by an automaker in India, and four sports utility vehicles (SUVs).
The automaker last week announced details of a redesigned alliance and detailed new joint projects in Latin America, India and Europe.
