Sky Brown has become Britain’s first skateboard world champion
Olympic bronze medalist Sky Brown has become Britain’s first skateboarding world champion at the age of 14.
Brown won gold in park skateboarding at the World Championships in Sharjah on Saturday with a best score of 90.83 from her three runs.
The teenager had topped the standings with a score of 89.63 from the second race, but saved her best for last to finish four points clear of Japan’s Kokona Hiraki.
Olympic champion Sakura Yosozumi, also of Japan, took bronze with England’s Lola Tambling sixth with 81.53 points.
“Being on the podium with these guys again is crazy,” Brown said. “It’s really fun. I try to enjoy it as much as I can.
“All of a sudden all three of my runs were amazing.”
Brown became Great Britain’s youngest Olympic medalist when she won garden bronze at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics at the age of 13.
Born in Miyazaki, Japan, to a Japanese mother and English father, Brown competed at the US Open in 2016 at the age of eight, and was first selected to compete for England in 2018.
Skateboarding is one of four new sports added to the Olympics in 2020, with skateboarding events held in the ‘park’ and ‘road’ sports categories.
