MANILA, Philippines — After her second-round exit in the US Open 2025, Alex Eala will compete in the Sao Paulo Open from September 8 to 14 in Brazil.
Though her Grand Slam campaign has ended, the 20-year-old Eala will continue her season in Brazil at a WTA 250 event, marking Sao Paulo’s return to the tour after 25 years.

Her participation has been confirmed alongside World No. 22 Beatriz Haddad Maia of Brazil, No. 47 Hailey Baptiste of the United States, Mexico’s Renata Zarazua, and Argentina’s Solana Sierra.
Eala ended her US Open campaign with a tough 6-2, 6-3 loss to Spain’s Cristina Bucsa early Thursday (Philippine time) at Court 7 of the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center in New York.

It was still a historic run for Eala, who became the first Filipino to win a match at a Grand Slam singles tournament in the Open era after outlasting World No. 14 Clara Tauson of Denmark, 6-3, 2-6, 7-6 (13-11), on Monday.
She surpassed her first-round exits in the French Open and Wimbledon.
The Rafa Nadal Academy product broke into the Top 75 and secured Grand Slam main draw slots following her dream semifinal run in the Miami Open, where she took down three Grand Slam champions.
Eala’s closest chance to a WTA title was during the Eastbourne Open when she fell short against Australia’s Maya Joint.
The Filipino tennis ace also said during her homecoming press conference last July that she’s planning to play in Asia in the final stretch of her season.
