Gavin Newsom Slams GOP After School Shooting In Minneapolis

“We cannot even make it through the first week of school without mass shootings,” he wrote. “And the @GOP will continue to do absolutely nothing while our kids are being gunned down.”

“This is sick,” Newsom added.

Around 8:30 a.m. Central time on Wednesday, an individual armed with a rifle, shotgun and pistol attacked Minneapolis’ Annunciation Church while children were attending Mass.

The school, which serves students from pre-kindergarten through eighth grade, held its first day of the 2025-2026 school year on Monday.

Authorities later identified the assailant as Robin Westman, who was discovered dead at the scene from a self-inflicted gunshot.

In a press briefing, Minneapolis Police Chief Brian O’Hara said Westman had no known criminal history.

While information about Westman’s motives is still emerging, FBI Director Kash Patel told the public that his department was investigating the shooting as an “act of domestic terrorism and hate crime targeting Catholics.”
