President Muhammadu Buhari, yesterday, said that his government has delivered campaign promises to Nigerians in 2015. Buhari, who spoke at the Seventh Convocation of the Federal University, Oye-Ekiti, added that he has delivered in the economic sphere, insecurity. and also against corruption.

At the event, the Chairman of the Nigerian Body of Benchers, Chief Wole Olanipekun, (SAN); former Managing Director of First Bank, Bisi Onasanya and former Super Eagles captain, Segun Odegbami, were awarded honorary degrees for their contribution to national development.

The President said that his campaign promises were based on improving the economy, improving security and the fight against corruption, adding that they have been fulfilled if great success was recorded in these three basic issues.

He said the country has not yet reached Eldorado, the government has set Nigeria on an irreversible highway through the implementation of mass-centric policies.

He said: “I remind everyone that the campaign for the presidency in 2015 was built on promises to improve security, strengthen the economy and fight corruption. First of all, let me express my gratitude to God Almighty, that we have fulfilled these three promises.

“At the time of inauguration, the country was almost besieged by terrorism and other insecurity. With a sense of responsibility, I boldly declare that the war against terrorism has been fought and won, because all the areas lost to these groups have been recaptured. And terrorism in Nigeria today last breath.

“It should also be noted that under my supervision, Nigeria rose from the brackish waters of near economic collapse to be recognized as the largest economy on the African continent. This is not an achievement. It is not a given. This can only be the result of a well-planned development plan.

“Corruption also grabbed the country by the jugular before I took office in 2015. It is also a recognized fact that the policies of my administration, including the introduction of the Treasury Single Account (TSA), the policy of whistle-blowing and the intensification of prosecution by anti-corruption agencies, have returned the wave of corruption in country.

He added that his government has transformed the education sector by increasing funding for human capital and infrastructure development.

“Although it is impossible to channel all the funds available in the country to the education sector, it is common knowledge that my administration increases funding for the sector in the annual budget”.

Vice Rector, Prof. Abayomi Fasina, said that the institution in the shortest time to create, has carved a niche for itself in the international grid of academic excellence.

While congratulating the graduating students, Fasina advised them to project a positive image of the institution.
