Trump Reacts To Taylor Swift And Travis Kelce’s Engagement

President Donald Trump had a surprising reaction to the announcement of Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce’s engagement just weeks after accusing the pop star of being “woke.”

While taking questions from reporters during a Cabinet meeting in the White House on Tuesday, Trump was asked about his thoughts on the couple’s big news.

“I wish them a lot of luck. I think he’s a great player,” Trump declared. “I think he’s a great guy, and I think that she’s a terrific person, so I wish them a lot of luck.”

Trump’s well-wishes mark a stark contrast to his past comments about Swift.

Earlier this month, the POTUS snubbed the “Bad Blood” singer while praising Sydney Sweeny’s viral and controversial American Eagle ad, which came under fire after social media users accused it of having problematic undertones and compared the ad’s messaging to Nazi propaganda.

“Sydney Sweeney, a registered Republican, has the ‘HOTTEST’ ad out there,” Trump wrote in an Aug. 4 Truth Social post. “It’s for American Eagle, and the jeans are ‘flying off the shelves.’ Go get ’em Sydney!”

He went on to blast companies like Budweiser and Jaguar for being “woke” before shifting his criticisms to Swift.

“Just look at Woke singer Taylor Swift,” the post continued. “Ever since I alerted the world as to what she was by saying on TRUTH that I can’t stand her (HATE!). She was booed out of the Super Bowl and became, NO LONGER HOT. The tide has seriously turned — Being WOKE is for losers, being Republican is what you want to be.”

Trump has publicly targeted Swift, who has been vocal about her opposition to his policies in the past.

Last year, Swift publicly endorsed Trump’s opponent Kamala Harris in the 2024 election in an Instagram post. In her post, the musician also called out Trump for previously using a fake, AI-generated image of her to make it falsely appear as if she were backing him in the election.

Days after she voiced her support for Harris, Trump called out Swift on Truth Social, writing, “I HATE TAYLOR SWIFT!”

In February, he mocked the singer after she was booed by fans while attending Super Bowl LIX in New Orleans during the matchup between the Philadelphia Eagles and the Kansas City Chiefs, Kelce’s team.

“The only one that had a tougher night than the Kansas City Chiefs was Taylor Swift. She got BOOED out of the Stadium,” Trump wrote on Truth Social after the game. “MAGA is very unforgiving!”

While Trump ridiculed Swift, The Associated Press speculated that the boos from the pro-Eagles fans were due to anti-Chiefs sentiment.

Trump appeared to randomly rail at Swift again later in May, writing on Truth Social, “Has anyone noticed that, since I said ‘I HATE TAYLOR SWIFT,’ she’s no longer ‘HOT?’”

Swift and Kelce, who have been romantically linked since late 2023, shared their big engagement news on social media Tuesday.

The couple posed for a series of photos in a garden in a joint Instagram post set to the tune of Swift’s song “So High School.”

“Your English teacher and your gym teacher are getting married [firecracker emoji,” the duo captioned their post.
