British actor of African descent, Idris Elba says that he cries whenever he watches his iconic role of Abraham Attah in Beast of No Nation released in 2015.
Abraham Attah plays the role of Agu in the popular American thriller which has other cast members including Idris Elba, Ama k. Abebrese, Fred Amugi, John Arthur, and Ricky Adelayitor. Abraham Attah stars in the drama as Agu, a child soldier who fights in a civil war in an unnamed African country.
In a radio interview with Opemsuo FM Kumasi, the 50-year-old actor mentioned that Abraham Atta’s flawless performance in the movie made him cry every time he watched it.
He noted that the experience was a reminder of the untapped wealth of talent in Ghana.
He stressed that Africa has a lot of skills, and is very proud of the people who are excelling on a bigger platform and are recognized globally.
“I cry whenever I watch the movie because Abraham Attah is amazing. Now, Abraham Attah has now moved on to bigger and better things and I am proud of him. The movie made me realize that there is so much untapped talent in Ghana, Cote D’Ivoire or Sierra Leone and other African countries that will be found and seen on the screen.
The actor also revealed that he and his friends are ready to set up movie studios in Ghana and across West Africa while he is currently in Ghana for some projects.
Idris Elba also mentioned that although there is much to be achieved in the film industry in Africa, the continent does not have the necessary facilities.
