Earlier on Monday, it appeared that Atsu had been trapped in the rubble after the earthquake that devastated Turkey.
Atsu, who is on the books from Turkish side Hatayspor, has been trapped in the wreckage along with the club’s sporting director Taner Savut.
However, after several hours of searching for the duo, it was reported on Tuesday morning that the Ghanaian was finally found alive and is being treated in hospital.
The news didn’t last long as other updates suggested the report was false and the footballer still hasn’t been rescued.
Ghana’s Ambassador to Turkey told Accra-based Asempa FM that all Ghanaians in Turkey have been accounted for, except for Atsu.
“I am happy and grateful to let you know that, apart from Christian Atsu, all Ghanaians have been considered. There are not many people in the area, and many of them are students. he said, as quoted by Ghanaweb.
“Our hope and intention for today is to evacuate to Ankara and Turkey because they are currently in a very good makeshift structure. What we are doing now is to evacuate to take care of them.
Meanwhile, Ghanaian international player Mubarak Wakaso and his close friend Atsu have issued a statement asking for the footballer’s family’s privacy to be respected at this difficult time.
