Tech giant Google didn’t come as much of a surprise with its much-anticipated press conference that announced a slew of AI-enabled updates to search, Maps, and Translation, as part of Google’s giveaway.
The press conference was broadcast live on YouTube from the company’s offices in Paris, France, on Wednesday.
Google’s demo includes references to many products that are still unavailable, along with updates to some existing products.

Many experts were expecting a decisive move towards ChatGPT and the Microsoft-OpenAI partnership, but Google refused to provide much new information about Bard’s conversational AI search tool, which is powered by the LaMDA model.
Update
On stage in front of a small audience in Paris, Google Senior Vice President Prabhakar Raghavan and Google Search VP Liz Reid took turns showing off a series of products.
Raghavan, who is in charge of Search, said “search is still the biggest moon,” adding that “the moon is moving.”
Raghavan says the past few years have seen major breakthroughs in the use and application of artificial intelligence – and AI holds major promise for people around the world.
“AI has powered Google’s core products that help billions of people every day.”

Look
The company says that AI makes it possible to search new languages, with new inputs (like searching with a camera, or even humming a song) and even with many inputs at once.
“And now thanks to multi-search, you can search with images and text together with the Google application.”

Google says it continues to push the most advanced multi-language translations.
“Now with 133 languages supported. And we have also increased the number of languages available on the device in the Translate application, with 33 new languages available to use if you have a network connection or travel without a language, including Basque, Corsican, Hawaiian, Hmong , Kurdish, Latin, Luxembourgish, Sundanese, Yiddi and Zulu, among others.

Google also updated its maps, which it says uses AI to analyze data and provide up-to-date information on traffic conditions and delays.
“Now with an immersive view, Google Maps combines billions of Street View and aerial images to create a rich digital model of the world.”
With AI, we use 2D images of space to generate highly accurate 3D representations that model the true complexity of space,” he said.
Gmail
In Gmail, Google says its spam filtering capabilities are powered by AI, and block nearly 10 million spam emails every minute.
“They also prevent more than 99.9% of spam, phishing attempts and malware from reaching you.”
Bard
Raghavan spent some time on the Bard feature during the Paris press conference, but he didn’t reveal anything new.
After the event, Google shares fell 8%, after Reuters reported that a Twitter ad for the new Bard service included inaccurate information about the first satellite to take pictures of a planet outside Earth’s solar system.
