The presidential campaign council of the Labor Party (LP) has criticized the standard bearer of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Bola Tinubu, for opposing the redesign of the naira by Central Bank of Nigeria.
Mr. Tinubu and his campaign council have said that shortage of naira due to policy implementation and lack of fuel is jeopardizing the general election.
However, Katch Ononuju, Peter Obi’s special adviser on Public Affairs, said the policy had nothing to do with politics.
Mr. Ononuju who spoke on African Independent Television on Tuesday said the policy would help track down politicians involved in money laundering.
He also said that the revenue generated from the cashless policy would help the government to manage debt-free governance.
The LP leader said the cashless policy is the best way to tackle Nigeria’s economic challenges as it will enable the government to monitor financial activities.
“For me, it is best not to care what people complain about. Those who complain now are the ones who should be blamed, the same as Dr. Doyin Okupe who is blamed.
“If someone has more than 10 million, it is against the law of money laundering. Why would a politician complain in public that he is not allowed to break the law?

“For the last seven and a half years, Nigerians have been suffering, these politicians have never spoken about the suffering of Nigerians. We, the sufferers, are happy. If you don’t suffer, you don’t gain. Suffering is the reason for success to be celebrated because if easy to come you will not see that in the middle is called success. So this is not suffering,” he said.
“The PDP candidate, Waziri Abubakar Atiku, has tweeted in support of what happened, Peter Obi has tweeted in support of what happened, why is it only Bola Tinubu who said no? It has nothing to do with the elements in the villa.
“It’s a very good policy. As far as I’m concerned, it’s the best. As you said, we all hold the good of the country.

“Why did I say that? For a long time, we have had funding problems and the best way for Nigeria to get more funding is to implement the internal economic activities in the country and the best way to get the best is to bring the economic activities into a focus where the government will be able to look at him.

However, a member of the APC National Working Committee, Hilliard Eta, who also spoke on the programme, said the policy was politicized by the CBN.
Mr. Eta, the National Vice Chairman, South-south of the APC, insisted that the policy has no merit, describing it as an attempt to incite Nigerians against the ruling party.
“Our Central Bank Governor, Dr Godwin Emefiele, is a bit political. We all know that at one time, he tried to contest for the presidency of this country.

“No one can argue with this policy, Nigerians whether they are politicians or not know that this policy is not well thought out. Before you bring the policy for implementation, you should think about the policy. This policy is not well thought out,” he said.
Mr. Eta said Nigerians are blaming the ruling party for the failure of the CBN to address the challenges of the cashless policy.
“You must understand that this is our government, this is the APC government and it is perceived by Nigerians that this is the policy of the APC. Nigerians do not understand that the Central Bank is an independent institution. Everything that the Central Bank does, rightly or wrongly, is put at their doorstep parties and that is why we say Nigerians go through hardships before they get personal income,” he said.
“Nigerians hold the party responsible for the stress, this is exactly what we said. We are saying that the process of this policy, the implementation of this policy is to make Nigerians angry with our party because people think that the central bank policy is the policy of the government, this is what said our people,” he added.
“It is a good policy to have a cashless economy, but I am saying that this policy by Emefiele, this policy in the way it is being done today, is not thought through, it is not a policy that has gone through the patriotic refinery. thoughts.”
