Gareth Bale holed a monster putt on the 13th hole at Pebble Beach; only professionals will now play in the final round which will end there after the strong wind stopped play there; Peter Malnati leads the pro field, ahead of Bale’s teammate Joseph Bramlett

Gareth Bale impressed again at the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am but will miss the final round with only professionals allowed to play what will now end on Monday.

Strong winds in California caused play on Saturday to be suspended at all three courses used for the tournament – Monterey Peninsula, Spyglass Hill and Pebble Beach.

Organizers said the third round will start at 8am local time (1600GMT) with the fourth, which will feature the top 65 pros and ties, starting at 1230am local time (2030GMT).

Golf fanatic Bale unveiled three replica holes at his home in Wales

Bale’s playing partner Joseph Bramlett is tied for second at 10 under after 13 holes in the third round, two shots behind leader Peter Malnati, who is 12 under 13.

Bramlett and Bale are tied for 16th at 15 in the Pro-Am event, with former Wales, Tottenham and Real Madrid footballer Bale’s third round including a monster putt at the 13th hole.

Speaking later, Bale, whose golf has been praised by major winners Jon Rahm and Matthew Fitzpatrick, said: “The last couple of weeks have been amazing. The pressure on my shoulders!

“I’m a big golf fan and appreciate what these players do on the golf course. It’s good to play with them, interact and watch what they do.

“Just watch him [Bramlett] attacking the ball is just another. Power, touch. He’s amazing and he’s a better person, more importantly. I couldn’t have asked for a better partner.”

Bale added: “At my home in Wales I have a replica of the 17th hole at Sawgrass, Postage Stamps at Royal Troon and the 12th at Augusta, less water because it’s a bit closer to home!”

This is the first time the Pebble Beach Pro-Am has been delayed due to wind since 2014.

Malnati leads the field after carding six birdies and an unblemished 12 holes in the third round so far, with the American taking three straight wins at Pebble Beach before play was suspended.

“I got to play eight holes before the weather turned bad, so that was great,” said Malnati, who is seeking his first PGA Tour victory since 2015.

“Pebble is difficult when you are out of position, but it can be done if you play well. I have played well this week, which is good.”

Bramlett, who also played Pebble Beach, added: “The weather was wild. It was calm enough for maybe seven, eight of our first holes. Then when we got to nine, it started to blow and then it was survival mode.

Bramlett was joined on 10 under by fellow American Keith Mitchell, with Ireland’s Seamus Power six shots off the pace on six under after taking one through 14 holes at Pebble Beach.
