EJ Obiena ruled the 2023 Orlen Cup in Lodz, Poland on Sunday, the Philippine pole vault star’s second victory in the tournament series of the European indoor season.
The world number 3 vaulter jumped with a distance of 5.77 meters, beating Sam Kendricks (5.70m) from the United States and nine other participants.
“Happy to win🥇 here in Łódź @orlencup. It was a tough battle, physically and mentally,” Obiena said on social media.
“We are now resting and recovering for the @copernicus_cup on February 8,” he said.
Just two days ago, Obiena tied the personal and national indoor mark of 5.91 meters at the Mondo Classic in Uppsala, Sweden where she finished third behind Sweden’s Armand Duplantis and America’s KC Lightfoot.
Italy-based Obiena opened the indoor season with a silver medal at the Internationales Springer-Meeting in Cottbus, Germany last week before claiming her first title of the year at Perche en Or in France with an effort of 5.82 metres.
Obiena was forced to miss the Asian Indoor meet in Astana, Kazakhstan on February 10-12 due to logistical problems with her poles and instead will compete in the Copernicus Cup in Torun, Poland on February 8.
