President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has provided a 300-bed accommodation facility for young soldiers at the 37 Military Hospital.
The facility, christened the Joseph Siaw Agyepong Young Soldier Block was financed and built by the Jospong Group of Companies (JGC).
Commissioning the facility in a colorful ceremony on Wednesday, February 1, 2023, President Akufo-Addo reaffirmed his government’s commitment to provide decent accommodation facilities for the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF).
Therefore, he said the building was named the Joseph Siaw Agyepong Young Soldier Block, after the Executive Chairman and Founder of the Jospong Group of Companies, Dr Joseph Siaw Agyepong.
According to the President, the project is part of Phases 1 and 2 of the Barracks Regeneration and Military Housing Project in 2020 and 2021, all aimed at providing decent accommodation for the military.
The Minister of Defense, Ambrose Dery, said that one of the main challenges facing the GAF wss accommodation, and therefore asked for help.
“Mr. President, since you took office, you have paid attention to our accommodation problem. You started by cutting the sod in May 2017, for the Barrack Regeneration Project that built 112 units of 2-bedroom flats in. Daula Barracks and 6 Garrison in Tamale ,” he said.
“Furthermore, you started the Military Housing Project which saw a monumental increase in accommodation stock,” Mr Dery said.
Earlier, in a short comment, the Executive Chairman of JGC, Dr. Joseph Siaw Agyepong, thank you very much to the Military High Command for the opportunity to support a worthy cause.
He pointed out that the Group sees the move as an opportunity to contribute its quota through Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) to important institutions like the Ghana Army.
“The contribution of the military to Ghana’s socio-economic development cannot be overemphasized and neither can any institution that is concerned with its health and well-being. This is why any contribution to support the smooth running of a major health facility– the 37 Military Hospital will not be forgotten by the JOSPONG GROUP OF COMPANY ,” he said.
JGC in a bid to give back to the community, explained, supporting institutions whose mission resonates with the corporate mission of JGC as a company whose mission is to contribute to saving lives in the community.
According to Dr Siaw Agyepong, the outfit has achieved a good collaboration with the Armed Forces as Ecozoil drivers and staff members have benefited from the rich expertise of various GAF outlets.
“This is really a personal admiration for the military for the sign of discipline, professionalism and excellence”, he emphasized.
“I am inspired by what I have said here and this further strengthens the company’s determination to continue donating the widow’s strength to Military Hospital 37 in other areas that we want to do,” said Dr. Siaw Agyepong.
