Some “elements” in the Presidential Villa want the presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Bola Tinubu, to lose the February 25 election, Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, has said.
Mr. El-Rufai, who spoke on Wednesday morning on Channels Television’s Sunrise Daily programme, said the people supported different candidates in the APC presidential election, but the candidate did not win the ticket.
The governor said the unnamed people are now hiding behind President Muhammadu Buhari to pursue their interests.
“I believe there are elements in Villa who want us to lose the election because they don’t want that way; they have a candidate. His candidacy did not win the primaries.
“They’re trying to make us lose the election, and they’re hiding the president’s willingness to do what he thinks is right,” he said.
Speaking on the issue of petrol subsidy and the new naira redesign by the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Mr El-Rufai said the president has the right to change the national currency but not politically or economically. understanding.
“This petroleum subsidy, which costs the country trillions of naira, is something we have agreed to remove. In fact, I have discussed with the president and shown him why it should go.
“Because how can you have a capital budget of N200 billion for federal roads and then spend N2 trillion on petroleum subsidies? This is a conversation with the president in 2021 when the subsidies start to increase. He was convinced. We left. It changed. Everyone in the government agreed , and changes.

“The second example I will give is this currency redesign. You have to understand the president. People blame the central bank governor for the currency redesign, but he didn’t. You have to go back and look at Buhari’s first outing as president.
“They did this; the Buhari regime, Idiagbon changed our currency and did it secretly with the aim of arresting those who spend money illegally. It is a very good intention. The President has the right. But doing it at this time in the appointed time does not make sense political or economic,” Mr. El-Rufai said.
While campaigning at a rally in Ogun State last week, Mr. Tinubu also said the shortage of petrol and new naira notes were aimed at derailing the presidential bid.
