The research conducted in all 16 regions of Ghana used approximately 197,000 NPP polling station executives (PSEs) as the target population.
“The favorite candidate for the NPP flag bearer position among the PSE is Dr Mahamudu Bawumia who is leading in all 16 regions as shown in figure 1 (below). Dr Bawumia’s closest competitors are Alan Kyerematen and Kennedy Agyapong. Please note that some PSEs (12.3%) indicated that they had not decided who to vote for, but that did not change the result. researchers said in the final report.
“The study was conducted in all 16 regions of the country using approximately 197,000 NPP polling station executives (PSE) as the target population. PSE is the most important constituency because more than 90% of the total delegates will vote for the NPP presidential candidate. Participants selected using multistage probability proportional to size sampling (PPS) with implicit stratification. Subsampling is done in three steps: the constituency in an area is the primary sampling unit (PSU), the electoral area in the constituency selected as the second stage sampling unit, and the Executive TPS NPP as final sampling unit.
“Data was obtained mainly through computer-assisted personal interview technology (CAPI) between November 15, 2022 and December 15, 2022. Based on a confidence level of 95% and a margin of error of 2%, a sample size of 6000 PSEs was used. However, 5641 PSEs were successfully interviewed (response rate 94 %) of all 96 constituencies. The Greater Accra region had the highest number of PSEs interviewed with 1142 PSEs, followed by the Ashanti region with 869 PSEs corresponding to 20.2% and 15.4% respectively. More than half of the PSEs that participated in the survey were Akan ( 54% [n=3056 PSEs]), and 46% (n=2585 PSE) are non-Akan. In terms of religious distribution, 78% of PSEs are Christian and 20.6% are Muslim.
“The favorite candidate for the NPP flag bearer position among the PSE is Dr Mahamudu Bawumia who leads in all 16 regions as shown in figure 1. Dr Bawumia’s closest rivals are Mr Alan Kyeremanten and Mr Kennedy Agyapong. It is worth noting that some PSEs (12.3%) indicated that they had not decided who they would vote for, but it did not change the result.
The NPP is expected to elect its flag bearer this year and candidates like Alan Kyeremanten, Kwabena Agyapong, Dr. Afriyie Akot, Kennedy Agyapong, Joe Ghartey and several others have announced their candidacy.
