‘We take responsibility for bad run,’ says Chiefs attacker Sekgota

Kgaogelo Sekgota was honest in his response to a question about the player taking some responsibility for Kaizer Chiefs’ barren run since one year.

The leaders are on a three-game losing streak in the DStv Premiership. And this puts coach Arthur Zwane in the spotlight.

Calls for Zwane’s firing have started from some sections of the Amakhosi faithful who feel there is no difference he can offer.

Sekgota knows that as players they also have to shoulder some of the blame for poor results.

“Obviously as players, we have to take responsibility because at the end of the day we are the players on the field,” Sekgota said this week.

However, he said the team did not get the results they needed.

“We did everything to win the match. We created chances, we played good football but it was just unfortunate that the result was not good for us.

“But that’s football and that’s how it is for every football player,” explained Sekgota in Naturena.

Learn every day

With Chiefs down in the DStv Premiership standings, their biggest rivals Orlando Pirates have caught up.

But it was Sundowns who put all the other teams – especially the big ones – to shame with their unprecedented run.

Sekgota said that his goal is always to win but he knows that everyone cannot win at the same time and the time will come.

“In football, you learn every day, improve every day and deal with certain situations every day.

“All teams have the same goal, but not all teams can achieve it at the same time – that’s the way of life.

“We have a good technical team that motivates us. And we work hard every day to correct our mistakes so that we can make our supporters and ourselves happy.

“We keep moving forward because every challenge that comes in life you have to face and try to overcome in order to be successful.”

The Chiefs have another tough test awaiting them on Sunday at the Peter Mokaba Stadium in Polokwane where they meet Royal AM.

The Durban side has proven to be a thorn in Chiefs side but Sekgota believes they can end the hoodoo this time.
