Arsenal midfielder Thomas Partey will have an MRI scan this weekend after picking up the injury in the FA Cup fourth round defeat at Manchester City.

Partey was replaced at half-time in Friday night’s loss as he was replaced by Albert Sambi Lokonga.

Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta insists the Ghanaian, who has been influential this season, is in a “discomfort”.

The Independent’s Miguel Delaney and the Press Association’s Simon Peach discuss Arsenal fans’ reactions to the Gunners’ 1-0 defeat by Manchester City in the FA Cup.

Arteta said: “He is experiencing discomfort and it is getting worse as time goes on.

“He’s not comfortable to continue. (Saturday) or the day after he’ll have an MRI scan and see what he has.

“Now we have Mo (Elneny) injured. It is impossible for him to be fit. (Albert) Sambi has come in and he is doing well.

“It’s true that Thomas is a big influence and a big personality and in the second half we didn’t have him.”

The Gunners are looking for a new midfielder before the transfer window closes and a serious injury to the 29-year-old could derail those plans ahead of Tuesday’s deadline, with Mohamed Elneny currently injured.

Sky Sports reporter Michael Bridge details Arsenal’s £60m bid for Brighton midfielder Moises Caicedo

Arsenal had a £60m bid for Brighton midfielder Moises Caicedo rejected on Friday.

The south coast club insisted that Caicedo was not for sale in the January transfer window, but Arsenal remained interested and decided they would return with a better offer.

Late on Friday night, the Ecuador international published a social media post urging Brighton to take a ‘good chance’ following Arsenal’s £60m bid.

Roberto De Zerbi says he talks to Moises Caicedo like a father, rather than a coach and hopes to stay with Brighton until the end of the season

Asked about a move for the 21-year-old after the defeat at City, Arteta replied: “You know I’m not going to comment on any player until it’s done, and I’ll continue like that.”

Asked if Arsenal expected to be busy in the coming days, the Spaniard replied: “We have been very active in the market.

“We have some needs and if there are others available, the club is willing to try to do it when it is enough and hopefully be a player who can improve our squad.”

Keane: I expect more from Arsenal at City

Roy Keane said he “expected more” from Arsenal in their 1-0 FA Cup defeat at City and labeled the performance “disappointing”.

North London sit at the top of the Premier League, five points ahead of City but they were beaten by Nathan Ake’s second round winner in the first meeting between the two teams this season.

Arteta, however, made six changes from last weekend’s Premier League win over Manchester United, while City made just two as they included Erling Haaland and Kevin de Bruyne in the starting XI.

Former Manchester United midfielder Keane told ITV: “It was difficult to measure Arsenal tonight because of the team they killed.

“Looking at the starting line-up you can tell that this is not their priority. They want to win the Premier League title.

“But I know the players will be down in the next few days because they don’t want to lose.

“They will recover and if they continue to win the league, they will say that they have to sacrifice this game, but if you make a lot of changes, especially defensively, you send a message that you are not bothered – that is. not a good message to send.

“I expected more from Arsenal tonight, but they disappointed me.”

Pep Guardiola dismissed suggestions that City’s 1-0 win would have any impact on the Premier League title race.

The Spaniard admits the tactics used by his former assistant Mikel Arteta surprised him as the Arsenal men’s marks disrupted City’s flow.

“It’s a tight game, a tough opponent,” Guardiola said. “The second half was better except for 10 minutes after the goal.

“I didn’t expect this approach, man-to-man. It made the process difficult. In the second half we had to contact more than usual with Erling (Haaland), that’s what we have to do. But it’s a victory, the next round, we’ll see what that’s what we have to do.”

City travel to the Emirates on February 15 in the Premier League but Guardiola says he does not think this result will have any impact.

He said: “I’m sure both teams will adjust to something.

“I have a feeling now he’s going to do something different.”

Guardiola’s men have now won their last three games after suffering back-to-back defeats earlier this month.

Keane said ITV: “Pep Guardiola criticized the players a few weeks ago, but they responded well.

“These kids have always been champions over the last few years, so they’re used to it.

“What we saw tonight is the experience that Manchester City have shown over the last few years, knowing how to win games.

“There was one incident at Arsenal and he was punished.

“It’s good to win games when you’re not at your best and there’s a lot more to come from City. They weren’t at their best tonight but in the FA Cup it’s about getting the job done.”
