Ministry of Education and Culture opens SHS Creative Arts in Kumasi
The Ministry of Education has revealed that it will pursue the establishment of the country’s first creative arts secondary school in the Ashanti Region next year.
The ministry said the establishment is to help the country develop a creative arts industry that generates millions of Ghana Cedis annually.
Speaking at the Ghana Science and Technology Explorer Prize (GSTEP) and Exhibition Awards ceremony in Accra, the Minister of Education, Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum explained that, Creative Arts and Science in today’s time, have merged, so the school will also include Science in the curriculum and also have 12 science laboratories to increase practicality.
“Next year, we are opening the first Creative Arts secondary school which will bring together children from all over the country to excel in the field of Creative Arts. You know how Creative Arts and Science go together, so in the Creative Arts school that will be established in Kumasi, there will be 12 Science labs and the students will be doing science.I’m sure you’ve heard about the fun science movie and our movie will also be based on science.
President Akufo-Addo cut the sod for the construction of the first Creative Arts SHS in Kwadaso in the Ashanti Region in December 2019.
The President in his address to the nation in March 2022 said that the school is 70% completed.
The facilities under construction include an administration block, a girls’ dormitory with a capacity of 750, a boys’ dormitory with a capacity of 500, a classroom block, and a studio laboratory.
The school after completion is expected to teach and develop the field of Creative Arts. President Akufo-Addo also created the Creative Arts Fund to raise funds to develop industries and complete schools.
