Jeff Bezos is the third richest person in the world. He founded a bookstore-turned-e-commerce giant and recently traveled to space on a rocket built by his own company, Blue Origin. And last year, he promised to give away most of his fortune, which amounted to about $ 120 billion.
So when it comes to business advice, Bezos has a thing or two to say. And his longtime girlfriend, Lauren Sánchez, recently revealed one of her top tips for managers: When they’re in a meeting, they should talk last. The reason? So no one else in the room will be influenced by the boss’s opinion, he said The Wall Street Journal in an interview Wednesday.
He also advised Sánchez that the meeting should be held for an hour if possible, and that the person holding the meeting should make a memo of no more than six pages on what was planned.
Bezos is known for his unique leadership style: He has been described as “relentless” by past employees, and famously said in a lecture years ago that “good leaders are right.”
“Living with Jeff is like having a master class every day. He really taught me a lot about management,” said Sánchez.
The relationship between Bezos and Sánchez was announced in January 2019. The two were married to different people when they met. Sánchez, the pilot, said the couple bonded while riding in the helicopter.
Before Sánchez started flying, he was an on-air host for several TV shows, including Good afternoon LA. . She is currently working on a children’s book, Flynn, The Fly Who Flynn and increased involvement with a new production company, Adventure & Fellowship.
The couple gave $100 million to Dolly Parton through the Bezos Award for Courage & Civility in 2021 to be donated to various charities. He also supports causes related to climate change and family rehabilitation.
Bezos will step down as CEO of Amazon in February 2021, taking on the role of executive chairman of the company’s board.
In an interview with JournalSánchez talked about her plans to go into space with an all-female crew on a Blue Origin spacecraft in 2024.
“These are going to be women who make a difference in the world and have an impact and have a message to send,” she said.
