The new minority leader may be successful but also shaky – Franklin Cudjoe
Africa Imani President, Franklin Cudjoe has joined the fierce debate over the change in the parliamentary leadership of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC).
Franklin Cudjoe in a post on Facebook admitted that the change in the Minority Leadership in the House now has some merits and demerits adding that the responsibility rests on the party to find a balance and use it to the best advantage.
He praised the outgoing leader despite his shortcomings and welcomed the rise of the incoming Minority leader, who he said had a big job to do.
For him, “these ‘new’ made people will succeed, but they will also falter, and their big shoulders will fall in times of crisis, except for Hon. Iddrisu and Hon. Muntaka?”
The NDC in a letter to the Speaker of Parliament, Alban Bagbin, on Monday January 23, stated that it has decided to replace the Minority Leader Haruna Iddrisu with Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson.
Other changes include Emmanuel Armah-Kofi Buah, MP for Ellembelle who has been brought in to replace Ketu North MP, James Klutse Avedzi as Deputy Minority Leader while Kwame Governs Agbodza has also replaced Asawase MP, Muntaka Mubarak as Minority Chief Whip.
However, Ahmed Ibrahim and Comfort Doyoe-Ghansah remain as First and Second Deputy Whips.
Current and past NDC MPs are divided over development due to lack of consultation. The party’s supporters were furious and demanded that the decision be overturned.
But the party insists, the announcement is in line with the 2024 election strategy and will not be reversed.

I have followed the fallout from the change in the leadership of the Minority and I must admit both sides, for and against the decision of the executive leadership of the NDC party, made strong arguments.
Actually, I must admit that Haruna Iddrisu, Hon. Muntaka and Hon. Avedzi is not only adept at monitoring his fellow parliamentarians to provide a special opposition to the government, but also respects his own role to an almost unparalleled level.
And from the rare quality of leadership that was born today’s leader in Hon. Ato Forson, Hon. Agbodza and Hon. Fruit.
These ‘new’ made people will succeed, but they will also falter, and their great shoulders will fall in times of crisis, unless Hon. Iddrisu and Hon. Muntaka?
However, Hon. Iddrisu and Hon. Muntaka is ripe for a bigger role whose time will come with the support of his successors in Parliament and the rank and file of the party, which should not be divided.
The country needs a viable alternative to its current economic atrophy. NDC should be worthy, but in Unity.
