Some movie and TV stars have injured themselves trying their own stunts… while others have suffered injuries through no fault of their own.
In one of the scariest examples, Teenage Wolf alum Dylan O’Brien was seriously injured in the flight Maze Runner: The Death Cure and it took him a year and a half to recover – and he wasn’t sure he wanted to go back into production.
“I’ve lost a lot of functionality, just in my daily routine,” the actor said raven in September 2017. “I’m not even at the point where I feel like I can handle social situations, let alone show up and be responsible for my daily work. Long hours on set, giving performances and bringing movies… just make my palms sweat.
He continued: “There’s nothing inside of you that wants to go back. It took a lot of deep searching through the gut instinct that I had just because of the trauma that I went through to know that I wanted to do it.
Other actors can relate: Ruby Rose recently revealed in The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon he endured “six to 12 weeks of excruciating pain” after stunts on set left him with two herniated discs that left him paralyzed. “It’s scary,” he added.
O’Brien and Rose are not alone. Scroll down to see a Jesus painter who was struck by lightning, an action star who almost stopped acting while recovering, an Emmy winner who fell victim to a “corset-related injury,” and another star headed to the hospital after a freak accident on set.
