A 33kV transformer belonging to the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) at Achimota Bulk Supply Point (BSP) at Abelemkpe in Accra was on Monday gutted by fire.
Personnel from the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) in Abelemkpe responded and prevented the fire from causing extensive damage to the station.
The cause of the fire around 4pm has not been determined.
There were no casualties.
The Ghana Electricity Company is working to restore power to the affected areas.
Areas in Accra affected by power outages due to fire are Airport, Kanda, 37 Military Hospital, Avenor, Kotobabi, Airport Housing Area, Legon.
Parts of Adenta, Gimpa, UG Medical Centre, Kokomlemle, Accra Newtown, Dzorwulu, and surrounding areas are affected.
