Arsenal retained control of the Premier League title race after Eddie Nketiah’s 90th minute winner gave them a dramatic victory over Manchester United in a thriller at the Emirates Stadium.

Manchester City’s previous win over Wolverhampton Wanderers put pressure on the Gunners, but they responded with character and quality, even after falling behind, to take a five-point advantage at the top with a game in hand.

United’s current player, Marcus Rashford, fired a superb right-footed strike from 25 yards to give them the lead in the 17th minute.

Arsenal responded strongly and leveled seven minutes later when Granit Xhaka’s cross created a chance for Nketiah, who headed Aaron Wan-Bissaka at the far post.

Bukayo Saka’s angled drive put Arsenal ahead eight minutes after the break, but the advantage lasted just six minutes, Lisandro Martinez heading home his first goal for the club after goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale headed in a corner.

Arsenal looked the more likely winners in the closing stages, with Saka hitting the post and Nketiah denied by a superb save from David de Gea.

The pressure paid off in the closing moments when Nketiah – the striker who did a remarkable job filling in for the injured Gabriel Jesus – headed in from close range to set off the celebrations at the Emirates Stadium.
