Hunting Sats Contest Announcement – Bitcoin Magazine

The Wasabi wallet, along with 12 other bitcoin projects and companies including Blockstream, BTCPay and Trezor, are collaborating to organize Bitcoin treasure hunts called “Hunting Sats.”

For a full week starting January 23, 2023, participating entities will open the seed word of a bitcoin wallet containing 3,454,811 sats. The company invites all Bitcoiners to try to crack their bitcoin wallet and claim all its sats.

An announcement sent to Bitcoin Magazine describes how brute force will be the method that will allow participants to destroy the seed, saying “For this game, brute-forcing the bitcoin wallet means finding the seed word and passphrase, in this case, arranging them in the right order. and use the resulting backup as a way to recover your wallet funds. There are many ways to achieve this and general knowledge about bitcoin wallets, script types, derivation paths, checksums, passphrases and BIP-39 seed words will help … people from all over the world competing to crack the wallet.

A 12-word, passphrase-protected bitcoin address (BIP39) generates a BTC address that can now be seized. Every word from the wallet, including the passphrase, is shared with 12 partners. During the week starting January 23, each partner will share the word using the hashtag #HuntingSats. By the end of the week, if no one can access bitcoin, more clues will be shared.
