The new development took place during the Global Forum on Food and Agriculture (GFFA) 2023 in Berlin, Germany. During this program, the Kenyan government pledged to proactively work towards the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) to address food insecurity.
The annual global Conference of Ministers of Agriculture whose theme this year is “Transforming Food Systems: The World’s Response to Multiple Crises,” has approximately 64 national representatives from all over the world.
Mithika Linturi, Kenya’s Cabinet Secretary for Agriculture and Livestock Development, who took the lead in this conversation, noted that Kenya is dedicated to this goal, and all to promote a sustainable and resilient food system by allowing the agriculture and food sector to produce sustainably. , closing the inequality gap and recovering quickly from the crisis.
“We recognize that agriculture can be economically and socially and provide a decent income and decent working conditions for farmers and rural communities. Special attention must be given to small farmers, women, youth and people in vulnerable and marginalized groups to achieve food security,” said.
Linturi, also noted that he together with the ministers of agriculture of the countries committed to work together to secure safe and nutritious food for the world, which will be available, accessible and affordable.
The minister also noted that his office will encourage youth participation in agriculture, especially youth living in rural areas.
“In line with the 2023 global Ministers of Agriculture conference, my Ministry will initiate a strategy to attract youth to join farming across the country,” said.
“The Kenyan government has distributed subsidized fertilizers to farmers and we expect this to increase yields when our farmers harvest,” he said. the minister added.
