The governorship candidate of the Labor Party (LP) in Jigawa State, Abdullahi Tsoho, on Friday defected to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
Mr. Tsoho’s defection came barely an hour before the visit of the APC presidential candidate, Bola Tinubu, who is expected to campaign in the state on Friday.
Mr. Tsoho was received by the governor of Jigawa, Muhammad Badaru, and the APC governorship candidate in the state, Umar Namadi, at the Government House.
Mr. Tsoho said he joined the APC together with all senatorial candidates, Labor House of Representatives candidates and other party leaders from the state.
He said all the defectors would be formally welcomed by the APC presidential candidate, Mr. Tinubu, on Friday.
The governor, Mr. Badaru, when receiving the defectors said they and their supporters will be accorded every right and privilege enjoyed by APC members.
Before defecting to APC Mr. Tsoho, a former secretary of the Nigeria Labor Congress (NLC) in Jigawa, was a staunch critic of the governor. He accused Mr. Badaru of undermining state and local government contributory pension schemes. He also accused them of not recruiting civil servants.
