The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Calabar branch has taken sensitization on the new naira no s for the market and streets in Calabar.

The CBN has also threatened to sanction banks that still dispense old notes at Automated Teller Machines (ATMs) across the country.

CBN Calabar, Ms. Glory Iniunan stated this yesterday during excecice sensitization on acceptance and deadline redesign naira notes in Watt, Ikot Ishie, 8miles and Marian market.

“What we have achieved here is to sensitize the people who received it, the last date of the redesigned naira notes. So that they know that from January 31, 2023, the old notes will be legal tender and on February 1, 2023, the new notes will be played in full, we will not use old notes anymore . Anyone who has old notes should bring them to the bank before January 31, 2023 to get new notes. Ikiunan stated.

He said the CBN has started checking banks across the country, threatening to sanction banks found circulating old notes.

The CBN controller further stated, “banks should not feed Automated Teller Machines with old notes but when you go to the counter, we still give old notes, the reason is that ordinary people use ATMs. , we want money for circulation.

“You can still collect old notes over the counter and use them but return to the bank before the 31st of this month, then, they must receive enough to give to you in exchange. So now, ATMs are distributing new notes. We have given people -them and the offense is sanctionable for you to dispense old notes and all banks know this.

“In rural communities, banks have agents, like POS agents who distribute new notes in rural communities. We do a spot check to find out which banks are still issuing old notes through ATMs. Even on weekends, we check points, there are ATMs that find old notes, we make a report to the head office and have sanctions. He stiffened.
