Olise’s stunner gave Crystal Palace a point to deny Man United
Crystal Palace’s Michael Olise scored a stunning last-minute free-kick to deny Manchester United a win that would see them finish second in the Premier League.
United were on course for a 10th consecutive victory after Bruno Fernandes scored before half-time when he finished well after a Christian Eriksen pull-back.
But Olise struck in dramatic style with a superb free-kick to ensure every point.
The draw moves United above Newcastle into third, but remains behind rivals Manchester City, who play at home to Tottenham on Thursday.
For Palace it ends a three-game losing streak in all competitions and Patrick Vieira’s side will feel they have earned the points they deserve.
United goalkeeper David de Gea made a superb save to tip Odsonne Edouard’s powerful strike onto the crossbar in the absence of a goal, two minutes before Fernandes struck.
De Gea also stopped again in the 75th minute, beating Marc Guehi’s header.
But the Spaniard was finally beaten in injury time with Olise’s superb 25-yard free-kick hitting the underside of the crossbar as Palace again showed their fighting spirit.
The Eagles are now 13 points from the drop in the Premier League this season, with only Tottenham Hotspur on 14 having recovered.
Erik ten Hag handed his Manchester United debut to Dutch forward Wout Weghorst after his loan move from Burnley earlier this month, but the closest he came was when he headed into the roof of the net.
United, who have not won the Premier League since 2012-13, are now eight points behind leaders Arsenal, with the Gunners having a game in hand, and the two teams meet at the Emirates Stadium on Sunday.
However, United will be without key defensive midfielder Casemiro as he faces a one-game ban after picking up his fifth booking of the league season following a late challenge on Wilfried Zaha in the 80th minute.
