Many feared dead as truck conveying PDP supporters crashes in Plateau

Many people were scared to death as the truck sent supporters from People’s Democratic Party (PDP), clashed in Panyam area, Mangu District Government, Plateau State, Saturday.

Several other injuries were sustained in the accident and are being treated at hospitals in the area Federal Highway Safety Commission (FRSC) has said.

Peter Longsan, FRSC spokesperson in Plateau, said in a statement on Saturday that the number of casualties could not be ascertained as many people had been taken to various hospitals by FRSC officials and volunteers.

“Our officers have finished taking the victims to the hospital, with details, we cannot determine because some victims were evacuated by other volunteers. The commander of the unit there said a full report that will include the number of people involved, the number of vehicles, the level of casualties, etc. others will be available later,” he said.

PREMIUM TIMES learned that the incident occurred when party supporters were returning from a zonal PDP campaign in Pankshin Local Government Area of ​​the State, on Saturday, and suddenly the truck they were traveling in crashed.

Meanwhile, the PDP governorship candidate in the state, Caleb Mutfwang, said he was saddened by the turn of events.

“On a sad note, a truck transporting some supporters of the People’s Democratic Party, (PDP), from the gubernatorial campaign and zonal rally in Central Zone, Plateau State, in Pankshin, crashed on Saturday afternoon after the rally, around Jwak Village, before the Bridge Panyam, Mangu Local Government Area (LGA).

“The supporters, mostly youths, sustained injuries of varying proportions, while some sadly lost their lives.

“The candidate for governor, Barr. Kaleb Mutfwang (BCM), is very saddened by the unfortunate event, and is now involved in evaluating the seriously injured from different hospitals in Mangu, to Jos, where they will hopefully receive more attention and care.

“While we appreciate all the first responders who are currently assisting with evacuation efforts, our thoughts and prayers are with all the families affected by this sad event,” a statement from the prospective read.
