The actions of SHS Chiana students reveal weak supervision at SHS – NNED
The North, North East and Savannah Regional Section of the Northern Network for Educational Development (NNED) blamed the authorities of Chiana High School for the indiscipline exhibited by the eight girls of the school, who were sentenced to dismissal.
The sentence sparked controversy, prompting an intervention by President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo just a day later.
Hearing the matter, the NNED, while welcoming the intervention of the President and commending him for showing leadership and good heart, asked the teachers and supervisors to be “diligent and do their duty”.
“In our view, the actions of the students expose the very oversight in our second cycle educational institutions by the school authorities, especially on the part of the teachers and management committees that have the responsibility of direct supervision of the school,” the network said in a statement issued. by the Executive Director of lead agency for NNED Savanna Signatures, Stephen Agbenyo.
“We believe that if the authorities at Chiana SHS are diligent and complete the task, these students will not have the opportunity to use illegal gadgets (mobile phones) in school to record and share on social media.”
The network condemned the language of the students in the viral video and reminded everyone that freedom of speech guaranteed under the constitution is not absolute.
“Be decorous in our utterances for all, young and old and especially, for our political class,” the statement admonished.
It calls for the introduction of Social and Emotional Learning (SEL) in schools and the intensification of Guidance and Counseling Units.
