Dr. Anthony Fauci on Friday expressed confusion over Twitter owner Elon Musk’s calls for him to be sued and teased the billionaire over the release of what he called the “Fauci file.”
Neil Cavuto, host of “Your World” on Fox News, asked the former director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases what he “made of the richest man in the world, or the second richest man right now, following you.”
“I don’t know what you’re talking about, Neil,” Fauci replied. “I want it. I don’t know what he’s talking about.
Previous installments of the “Twitter Files” series have detailed the internal discussions and workings of the social media platform, prior to Musk’s purchase. The “Fauci file” is due to drop in early January, per Musk. But the release seems delayed.
“I just don’t understand what they’re doing. And I don’t think I should address it because it’s a bit surprising,” said Fauci, who has been the subject of intense attacks from the right for pushing for a COVID-19 lockdown and vaccine and mask mandates.
Fauci told Cavuto that he had “nothing to hide” and “can defend everything I’ve done.”
“So, a lot of people are talking about me and Twitter. I don’t have a Twitter account. I never had a Twitter account. I don’t intend to have a Twitter account. And I have nothing to do with Twitter,” he said. “So, I don’t know what he’s talking about when he says that, Neil. I just don’t. I’m confused.”
Last month, Fauci called Musk’s attack “just a distraction.”
