Former Attorney General and Minister of Justice, Joe Ghartey, has assured former President John Agyekum Kufuor, and by extension, the entire ‘elephant family’, that they will not be able to divide the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) during the campaign. for party flagbearer duty.
He gave the assurance when he visited the former president at his Aburi residence in the Eastern Region on Thursday, January 12, 2023.
Announcing Mr. Kufuor’s intention to contest the next presidential primaries from the NPP, Joe Ghartey said he would not disparage any other candidate for the race.
Ghartey promised to promote unity in the NPP before, during, and after the presidential election.

Ghartey served as Deputy Attorney General and Minister of Justice and subsequently as substantive Minister of Justice under former President Kufour.
Mr. Kufuor, who ruled Ghana from 2001 to 2009, took the opportunity during his visit to express his satisfaction with the performance and professionalism of Joe Ghartey as Attorney General and Minister of Justice.
He recounted how, before becoming Attorney General in 2006, Ghartey was the lawyer for his mother, Obapanyin Ama Dapaah, and later the lawyer for his sister, Nana Druwaa.
Commenting on the scouting process, Mr. Kufuor reminded that all candidates should show sportsmanship and at the end of the competition, whoever wins should be supported by all.
He reminded Joe Ghartey that the NPP as a party has no individuals and no one is bigger than the party. He also urged that it be important at all times to protect the integrity of the party.
According to John Agyekum Kufuor, he still believes that the NPP is the better choice when it comes to the governance of Ghana.
He hoped that the party would work hard and win the 2024 general elections.
