According to him, students who violate the standard code of conduct prescribed by GES should be punished in order to deter others.
“Look at the string of indiscipline in our school. Teachers feel that their power to discipline students has been taken away by the use of positive discipline tools. They feel that now even if we discipline the students, the authorities can step in to request or reverse the decision and so they don’t want to do it again. Whatever the students did, they were left alone to continue. We do not want to encourage that if the disciplinary code that states the disciplinary results are followed and a decision has been reached that there is something to be done, we must use the internal structure to appeal the process to reverse it and not. as we saw the President called for GES to reverse the decision.
“We must not see political interference in school decisions. We must reach a point when the school takes a decision and is consistent with the school’s code of conduct and there must be a change, we will use the internal structure to appeal the reversal,” starrfm.com.gh quote Divine Kpe as said.
The Ghana Education Service (GES) suspended the eight female students following a viral video that surfaced in November last year in which they were caught insulting the President while expressing their frustration over the woes in the country.
A letter dated November 29, 2022, signed by the Director General of GES, Dr. Eric Nkansah and handed over to the guardians of the affected students stated the dismissal.
GES described the behavior of the students affected in the dismissal letter as undesirable, and contrary to the acceptable standards of conduct generally required of students in the Ghanaian education system.
The disciplinary action was the result of an investigation launched into the video by GES and the management of Chiana SHS after they apologized to the President on behalf of the students involved.
However, on Friday, January 13, 2023, the GES spokesperson, Kwasi Kwarteng, announced that after the intervention of the President, the Minister of Education, Dr. Yaw Adutwum, has ordered the GES to review disciplinary action against delinquent students. .
The statement added that the GES was directed to give other punishments to the students instead of dismissal.
