He said that everything that Ghana needs to do or submit to reach an agreement with the Fund has been completed, and is optimistic that the process should be completed in the next month.
Speaking in a meeting with some African-American students from Harvard Business School at Jubilee House, president Akufo-Addo said the economy of Ghana has suffered greatly at times forcing Ghana to run to the IMF for bailout.
“We have experienced difficulties in the past few years trying to reposition our economy to grow again. Some basic statistics that you know have pushed us; the energy sector crisis, the global food crisis, and many others and Ghana has not escaped from all these crises.
“We are currently in the process with the International Monetary Fund and hopefully by the middle of this month or February, a full IMF program will be implemented that will help us fix the public finances affected by external forces.”
The government in December 2022 reached a staff-level agreement with the International Monetary Fund (IMF) as part of the process leading to the bailout.
Ghana is seeking to secure $3 billion from the IMF to cover its revenue shortfall and pay off its external debt.
