The WHO was set up as an agency of the United Nation whose mandate includes “monitoring public health risk and coordinating responses to health emergencies.”
In what appears like a power tussle between the world engine house seeking for safety of people and another world power who manufactures anything they think will make them to be overall world power, WHO played politics with the life of the world.
The Emergency Committee of the World Health Organisation on the 30th of January 2020 had welcomed the leadership and political committee of the VERY HIGHEST LEVEL of Chinese government, their commitment to TRANSPARENCY, and the efforts made to investigate and contain the current outbreak…
“The Committee does not recommend any travel or trade restriction based on the current information available”.
The above recommendations were subsequently endorsed by the
Director General of the WHO
Regardless of WHO misleading declaration, President Trump, on the 31st of January 2020, imposed travel restrictions on China amidst widespread criticism from several quarters particularly the liberals and the Democrats (including the Democratic flag bearer Joe Biden) who labeled Trump “xenophobic” and “racist” for his timely action that saved many American lives.
Recall further that about one week earlier, on the 23rd of January 2020 precisely, WHO refused to declare the outbreak a global emergence even after it had spread to at least five countries and even stated thus:
“At this time, there is no evidence of human to human transmission outside China”: Dr Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus (WHO Director General). At this period the United States had already commenced airport screening for people arriving from Wuhan amidst criticism from the DG of the WHO
It’s of importance to note that the major sponsor is the United States of America that contributes between $400 million to $500 million annually to it. China by contrast, contributes about $40 million to the WHO annually
